I was looking for a new watch strap for my new Nodus Retrospect II. The band that’s included is actually not bad. However, I see the Nodus as the perfect watch for sunny days and I don’t like a watch with a thick leather band when it’s hot.
Canvas is lighter and cooler than leather and it’s also casual, laid back, and it matches well with jeans. Perfect for that vacation vibe I was looking for.
I checked out some recommendations and decided to go for the Dassari Canvas Frayed Edge Strap from StrapsCo.
Material
This canvas watch strap is made of different layers. At the least, it’s made of two layers (canvas and leather).
It has a leather bottom layer that’s on your skin and the top is made of distressed canvas with raw edges which has contour stitching.
It feels like there’s a rubbery third layer in the middle that makes the straps supple and flexible but I’m not sure.
Looks
This particular one is Washed Blue and it does look like a faded pair of blue jeans. The lining is dark blue.
Because it’s a mix of dark and light tints of blue, it matches well with a wide array of colors. It looks good with white, all shades of blue, dark gray, and all shades of green.
In the case of the Nodus, it pairs well with the silver of the dial and the blue second hand. The light blue color of the strap also creates an interesting contrast with the dark bezel.
The Dassari canvas strap also comes in Faded Black, White Oak, Military Green, and Ash Gray.
Buckle
To be honest, I immediately swapped the buckle that was fitted.
The original stainless steel buckle isn’t bad. It has some weight to it and it feels solid. It was simply too wide and too clunky for my taste. Besides, The Nodus looks better with the branded buckle.
Feel
That’s where this strap really shines. After wearing it a few times, the strap adapts to your wrist and it feels like it was made for it.
It’s quite thick but it’s still light and surprisingly supple.
The leather backing feels comfortable on the skin and the combination of canvas and leather breathes well. That means it’s perfect for those hot summer days.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a casual and stylish watch strap for your vacation, this might be it. You’ll be able to match it with a lot of different watches because of the mixed colors and the texture of the canvas gives it that bit of extra.
I’ve only had it for a few days, so I can’t tell you about the durability but it feels very solid and well made.
